We are all so tired of being sick. t.i.r.e.d. of it.
Rich left early for his meetings. The rest of us stayed home. I did go to teach my lesson but them came back home to be a nurse. They did have more energy today which is always a good sign toward recovery. Poppy still can't hear at all in her right ear, though. Hmm. My left ear is throbbing, so I too have ear drops in with the cotton plug. Lavender helped me put it in. Poppy was excited to see it to see if it looked like gel. That is how she has been imagining it this past week. Which it is not, but was a good guess for only feeling it.
When I came home from church, the kids asked me to wait outside for a minute. When they opened the door, I was greeted with Green Bay Packers' flags and shirts!! Nigel printed out the G logo and taped it onto his and Poppy's shirts. And Lavender was waving a yellow banner stuck to chopsticks! Clever. Nigel convinced Poppy to cheer for Green Bay in this year's Super Bowl as it was the state of her birth. But how he got Lavender to switch from the Steelers is still a mystery!
Today was an experimental food day. I followed a Rachel Ray recipe, putting our roast in at 550 degrees for 35 minutes and then leaving it in the oven for an additional 2.5 hours. Our poor smoke detector rang for nearly the entire 35 minutes. It smelled good though. Hot but good. I set rolls to rise before I left and was excited to come home.
When I took out the roast, I was so disappointed. The top fat was charred, and the vegetables were caramelized on the bottom side. And the whole thing was cold. I think we are going to have to work on this recipe. I used a pan instead of a ceramic dish--also need to check on that difference. Then, as I went to put in our rolls, we lost all power. We are on an industrial grid, so we don't go out very often. This is only the second time in nearly 6 years. The first time was a car accident that took down a pole. An hour later, the rolls were getting too big and still no electricity so we cooked them on the grill! They weren't half bad! The first pan was a bit brown, but the second two were great. And one was even cinnamon rolls! I must admit we were pretty excited by our ingenuity.
The remainder of the day quietly passed with making Valentine's day boxes, and more Green Bay cheer stuff. Nigel is most upset that I wouldn't forgo his bedtime hour, but he has been so sick that I certainly could not do so in good conscience. Poor thing. The only one alive with a strict mom.
All I can say is that he should be grateful the power came back on (at 4:30) so that he could watch the first half!!
Gratitiudes:
1. sunday dinner in the dining room
2. homemade rolls
3. finishing the river otter sock puppet for Poppy's presentation
